My 3rd great-grandmother was Elizabeth (Betsey) Stoops. She was the daughter of Philip and Ann(e) McCormick Stoops.
Elizabeth married her 1st cousin Benjamin Campbell, son of Abraham and Elizabeth (McCormick) Campbell in Highland County, Ohio, 11 March 1819. Unfortunately, the original Highland County marriage books from 1816-1820 are blank and the marriage returns were lost.1

Based on the marriage date for Benjamin and Elizabeth as well as tax records of Rockbridge County, Virginia, the Campbell and Stoops families arrived in southwestern Ohio between 1815 and 1819.3,4
In the 1820 Federal census, Philip Stoops and Abraham Campbell are enumerated in Highland County and Benjamin Campbell is in Adams County.5,6,7
In 2011, I discovered the Guild of One-Name Studies (https://one-name.org) and registered the Stoops name. I began researching Stoops individuals in Highland County, and then moved onto other counties in Ohio. I have now expanded my study to several states as well as a few countries.
